Rock Bottom, 4 Important Questions to Ask Yourself

Rock bottom or something like it…

🌟

There are moments in life that feel like a test of endurance, a kind of dubious reward for a series of less-than-stellar decisions. Perhaps it was that unwelcoming cell with its less-than-pleasant aroma, the sound of a distressed dog pleading for compassion, or maybe those imposing walls of barbed wire, which together brewed a concoction potent enough to make anyone ponder over life's decisions. The ones that brought you here and the ones that didn’t.

Oh, the reason for my little 'vacation' behind bars? Well, that's a tale reserved for another fireside chat — suffice it to say that timing isn't always my strong suit, and having friends who've got your back? Yeah, that's solid gold.

You see, the events that stacked up to that pinnacle of 'Uh-oh' weren't exactly linked, but boy, did they snowball into a life lesson that hit hard. As I sat there, in the waiting game that is the justice system, resignation set in. Not the peaceful, chosen kind, but the type that feels more like a cocktail of defeat, fear, and a dash of faith for good measure.

Life's been throwing out curve balls like it's aiming for the major leagues, and there I was, spinning full circle, just trying to get a glimpse of what's coming next. But it's funny, the view from what seems like rock bottom. There's something liberating about realizing you've got nothing left to lose.

Next time you find yourself in the depths, ask these questions to mine the gems from your plight:

Rock bottom can be a beautiful place

What am I left with?

Where do I want to be?

What do I miss?

What does the unknown really look like?

What Am I Left With?

When you find yourself at rock bottom, it's almost like taking stock in a dimly lit room, seeing clearly what you've carried along on your journey. It's akin to embarking on an adventure without a clear packing list — left with only a half-eaten bag of chips, partly used organic deodorants, the remains of last year's incense, and a collection of unmet needs.

But really, how crucial is all that stuff?

Imagine trekking to a canyon with just a life jacket and goggles; summiting would understandably be a formidable challenge. Similarly, venturing into the world of entrepreneurship with visions of wealth and legacy, only to meet hard questions about self-worth, the true meaning of life, and the relentless path of self-discovery and personal development. This brings us to a pivotal inquiry:

What does it mean to live in alignment, and what does that look like for you? And what do you need to carry with you, truly?

When rock bottom hits, it's an opportunity to reassess and repack your metaphorical bag with new insights and perspectives. And perhaps the most liberating realization is this: you don't have to hit rock bottom to start over and learn from the past. With each journey, your load should get lighter, gradually filling with nothing but essentials, until you find that all you truly need is love. This revelation prompts a fundamental question: where do you truly want to be?

Somewhere tucked away on a mountain top

Where Do I Want to Be?

Having arrived here, it might feel ironic, yet it's precisely where you aimed to be. Surprisingly, the bitter-sweet truth is that we hold the reins of our lives and destiny. Reflect on your direction—where did you plan on heading? Or possibly, you've yet to deeply connect with yourself, to inquire in a way that anticipates a genuine response. Yet, you're capable. You possess the power to choose. The more you articulate your thoughts, vocalize your desires, and align with your preferred frequency, the simpler it becomes to adhere to your chosen path.

What Do I Miss?

This isn't about the material stuff; this is soul food we're talking about. What life lessons have skipped onto your plate on this buffet of experience? Embrace them, hold space for them, and allow them to nourish your next chapter. This chapter is also intertwined with integration because part of rock bottom is re-emerging as a new person with a clean slate. and that looks different for everyone. It might mean going out more or staying in more. Being with yourself or trying to get out of your shell. Challenge yourself in different ways or focus on just one task at a time. It’s all different and unique to you and your life experiences

The journey unknown is one done by a brave man

What Does the Unknown Look Like?

Sometimes, the anticipation of what's around the corner can feel more haunting than any ghost story. But here's the twist: the unknown is just an adventure waiting to be had. And trust me, the age-old saying that 'the only way is up' is more than just words — it's the path to change, rebirth, and, inevitably, to growth.

Now, as you piece yourself back together, with new perspectives and a lighter load (because let's face it, all you really need is a pocket full of love and an open heart), remember that you don't need the harshness of rock bottom to take a moment to reflect, reassess, and reinvent.

Rock bottom? I'd say it's more like a trampoline, catapulting you toward skies filled with potential. And in the marvellous stream of life, we can either swim tirelessly to stay put or simply let the current guide us to waterfalls, rainbows, and a treasure trove of abundance.

🌈

Remember, my friend, your story isn't written by the chapters of hardship you've encountered, but by the resilience, love, and light you choose to fill the pages with from here on out.

Shine on!
